AT&T Internet had the fastest median upload speed among top fixed broadband providers at 195.64 Mbps during Q4 2023. Frontier was a close second at 185.07 Mbps and Verizon was third at 102.27 Mbps. Cox was a distant fourth, followed by Optimum in fifth, XFINITY in sixth, and Spectrum in seventh.

Calculating median multi-server latency for top fixed broadband providers in the U.S. during Q4 2023, Verizon had the lowest median multi-server latency at 15 ms. Frontier was next at 17 ms. AT&T Internet followed at 22 ms, then Optimum at 23 ms, Cox at 25 ms, XFINITY at 26 ms, and Spectrum at 32 ms.

Consistency
In measuring the Consistency of each fixed broadband provider’s performance, there was no statistical winner during Q4 2023. Spectrum had a Consistency of 92.0% of results showing at least a 25 Mbps download speed and 3 Mbps upload speed, while XFINITY had a Consistency of 91.7%, and Cox had a Consistency of 91.0%. Optimum was next at 89.9%. Verizon was fifth, AT&T Internet sixth, and Frontier seventh.

Verizon had a Video Score of 85.19, Frontier 85.18, XFINITY 85.17, Cox 85.11, AT&T Internet 85.05, Optimum 84.64, Spectrum 84.24, and Space X’s Starlink 79.37.

Regional Speeds
At the state level, Rhode Island showed the fastest median download speeds over fixed broadband in the U.S. during Q4 2023 at 257.48 Mbps. Connecticut was second, Florida third, Delaware fourth, and New Hampshire fifth.
Wyoming had the slowest median download speed in the U.S. during Q4 2023 at 105.23 Mbps. Montana was next slowest, then Alaska, New Mexico, and Idaho.
Spectrum was the fastest fixed broadband provider in eight states during Q4 2023. XFINITY was fastest in six states. Google Fiber was fastest in five states, followed by AT&T Internet and Cox which were fastest in three each. Verizon was fastest in two states. Allo, Bluepeak, C Spire, Connect2First, Frontier, GCI, MetroNet, Midco, SRT, USI, and Ziply Fiber were each fastest in one state during Q4 2023. Results were too close to statistically determine in 11 states and the District of Columbia.

City Speeds
Among the 100 most populous cities in the U.S., Raleigh, North Carolina took the top spot as the fastest city for median download speeds over fixed broadband at 289.96 Mbps. Chesapeake, Virginia was second; Corpus Christi, Texas third; Irvine, California fourth; and Austin, Texas fifth.
Atlanta, Georgia had the slowest median download speed over fixed broadband among the 100 most populous cities in the U.S. during Q4 2023, at 91.35 Mbps. Detroit, Michigan was second slowest; Dallas, Texas third slowest; Seattle, Washington fourth slowest; and Denver, Colorado fifth slowest.
AT&T Internet was the fastest fixed broadband provider in 25 cities during Q4 2023, followed by XFINITY which was fastest in 12 cities. Cox was fastest in 10 cities, while Spectrum was fastest in eight. Google Fiber was fastest in seven cities, followed by Verizon in six, while Frontier was fastest in two. Allo, Buckeye CableSystem, GCI, IQ Fiber, MetroNet, Rocket Fiber, Sonic, Sparklight, USI, and Wyyerd Fiber were each fastest in one major U.S. city during Q4 2023. Results were too close to statistically determine in 20 cities during this same period.

Verizon Wireless and AT&T were distant runners up, although both saw increases in median download speed.

Median Multi-Server Latency
Calculating median multi-server latency for the three top mobile operators in the U.S. during Q4 2023, T-Mobile had the lowest latency at 50 ms. Verizon Wireless was a close second at 57 ms. AT&T was third at 64 ms. As latency becomes an increasingly important measure, we’ll be sure to watch latency metrics closely.

5G Performance
Looking only at tests taken on a 5G connection, T-Mobile had the fastest median 5G download speed in the U.S. at 238.87 Mbps during Q4 2023, an improvement on its performance during Q3 2023. Verizon Wireless remained second and continued to improve its median 5G performance, recording 196.43 Mbps in Q4 2023, up from 153.79 Mbps in Q3 2023. AT&T remained third, but also showed an increase, recording 125.73 Mbps in Q4 2023, up from 101.55 Mbps in Q3 2023.

5G Median Multi-Server Latency
Our mobile 5G multi-server latency results in Q4 2023 showed that among top providers, T-Mobile registered the lowest median 5G latency in the United States. Latency was a tight race, but our testing showed that with a median value of 48 ms, T-Mobile users saw better multi-server latency values than those of their nearest competitor, Verizon Wireless (52 ms).

Our analysis of the most popular devices in the U.S. during Q4 2023 showed that the Apple iPhone 15 Pro Max recorded the fastest median download speed, followed by the iPhone 15 Pro. These two leading devices were followed by the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4, the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra, and the iPhone 15.

Vermont had the slowest median download speed at 42.29 Mbps. Maine was next slowest, then Alaska, Wyoming, and Mississippi.
T-Mobile was the fastest mobile operator in 46 states and the District of Columbia during Q4 2023. Verizon was the fastest in North Dakota, GCI was fastest in Alaska, while results were too close to call in South Dakota and Vermont.

Glendale, Arizona had the fastest median mobile download speed among the 100 most populous cities in the U.S. at 224.51 Mbps during Q4 2023. Plano, Texas was second; St Paul, Minnesota was third; Indianapolis, Indiana fourth; and Chandler, Arizona was fifth.
Anchorage, Alaska had the slowest median mobile download speed among the U.S.’s 100 most populous cities during Q4 2023 at 58.32 Mbps. Laredo, Texas was second slowest; Reno, Nevada third slowest; Fremont, California fourth slowest; and Richmond, Virginia was fifth slowest.
T-Mobile was the fastest operator in 67 of the 100 most populous cities in the U.S. during Q4 2023. Verizon Wireless was the fastest provider in Irvine, California; Miami, Florida; and El Paso, Texas. AT&T was fastest in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Results were statistically too close to call in 29 cities.
